(Hyattsville, MD)—On June 11, CASA will host its 2015 Justice Awards Night at the Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, D.C. to recognize businesses and individuals who have shown outstanding commitment to the Latino and immigrant community.
This year’s ceremony will be especially powerful as it marks 30 years of CASA’s accomplishments; establishing centers throughout Maryland and Virginia, opening a 21,000 square-foot Multicultural Center, providing services to the immigrant communities, and leading successful campaigns advocating for education access, drivers licenses, immigration reform, and relief for thousands of families.
Over 250 guests are expected to attend this year from the non-profit, corporate and government sectors, including Keynote Speaker Congressman Chris Van Hollen and 30th Anniversary Speaker Cecilia Muñoz, White House Director of Domestic Policy. In the ceremony, two CASA leaders and heroes – Maya Ledezma and Catia Paz – will be recognized for their courage in fighting injustice. Additional awardees include; Adventist HealthCare, LiUNA Mid-Atlantic, and Tucker & Associates, PLLC, for their work on behalf of and in support of immigrants throughout the region.
“Each and every day, our community grows and so does CASA” said Gustavo Torres, Executive Director of CASA. “We have won victories together as a community and this night is our opportunity to celebrate thirty years by recognizing those who have been together with us on this journey.”
The Justice awards recognize the committed work of partners from all sectors – community members to government; corporate partners to unions. At Thursday evening’s celebration, community members, public officials, and more will be on hand for interview.
