CASA in Action, Community Organizations and Members Hold a Rally to Stand Up Against Corey Stewart’s Push Demanding Prince William’s Police to Collaborate in Deporting Hundredths of Immigrant Families

WOODBRIDGE, VA (February 14th) _ CASA in Action, Virginia organizations and community members will host a rally TODAY to stand up against attacks by Prince William County’s County Supervisor Chair, Corey Stewart and his repeated comments attacking immigrants.

On February 7th, Stewart urged the Trump administration to deport over 7,500 undocumented immigrants that Prince William County handed over to ICE in the past ten years. However, many of these immigrants do not have any criminal convictions.

“Corey Stewart actions pose a great threat to the Prince William community,” said Michelle LaRue, CASA’s Director for Virginia. “What’s going to happen is that instead of reporting crimes to the police, is less cooperation between the immigrant community and police leading to more crime.”

Stewart is one of three Republicans running for governor in 2017. The Board of Supervisors is set to draft a letter asking the Trump administration for information on these immigrants.

Nearly one hundred people, including immigrants, are expected to show up for the rally.

Organizations and community members will meet at 7:00pm on Tuesday, February 14th at “McCoart Building” located at 1 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge, VA 22192.

About CASA in Action:
CASA in Action is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization that engages in educational activities and legislative and political advocacy in support of Latinos and immigrants in Maryland and Virginia.

CASA in Action facilitates greater electoral and campaign engagement by Latinos and immigrants in Maryland and Virginia by providing political education to Latinos and getting them to the polls. Since its inception in 2010, CASA in Action has attracted over 50,000 members.

During election years, CASA in Action engages voters through political debates, questionnaires to candidates and candidate endorsements, Spanish-language earned media, voter registration, and Get-Out-The Vote activities.

When CASA in Action endorses a candidate, it bases that decision on the candidate’s position on priorities chosen by our members. Our members vote for those candidates who align with their vision for a more just society. And that endorsement is communicated to Latino voters.
