Group Representing Low-Wage & Immigrant Families Continue Major Ground Campaign for VA Candidates

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Take Action Virginia today announced endorsements of a group of local candidates who are committed to improving life for working and immigrant families. The new collaboration between major community and labor groups endorsed Alexandria Mayoral candidate, Allison Silberberg, at large council candidates John Chapman, Justin Wilson and Willie Bailey; John Foust, Penelope Gross and Kathy Smith in Fairfax County; Anjan Chimaladinne, Al Nevarez, Kristen Ummstattd, Koran Saines, and Phyllis Randall for Loudoun Board of Supervisors; as well as Katie Cristol and Christian Dorsey in Arlington.Since June, Take Action Virginia has contributed hundreds of hours of member volunteers who are knocking on doors as well as significant financial resources for endorsed candidates.

“Virginia wouldn’t be as strong as it is today without the men and women who build our roads and provide vital public services,” said Dennis Martire of LiUNA! Mid-Atlantic. “These local candidates will be in critical decisionmaking positions to ensure that our government protects working families, not just large corporations and developers. That is why these true progressives will be heroes to our members.”

Previously endorsed candidates include John Edwards (Senate District 21), Josh King (House District 2), Don Shaw (House District 13), Marty Mooradian (House District 27), Sara Townsend (House District 31), Elizabeth Miller (House District 32), Kathleen Murphy (House District 34), Jennifer Boysko (House District 86), John Bell (House District 87), Virginia State Senate candidates Gary McCollum in his race against incumbent state Sen. Frank Wagner (R-7), Dan Gecker in his race against Republican Glen Sturtevant to fill the seat vacated by retiring state Sen. John Watkins (R-10), Jill McCabe in her race against incumbent state Sen. Dick Black (R-13) and Jeremy McPike in his race against Republican Hal Parrish for the seat vacated by retiring state Sen. Chuck Colgan (D-29).

Take Action Virginia includes 32BJ SEIU, SEIU Virginia 512, CASA in Action, LiUNA! Mid-Atlantic, NAKASEC Action Fund, UNITE HERE Local 25, and UFCW Local 400. Its member organizations collectively represent tens of thousands of Virginians employed as home care workers, parks staff, librarians, building cleaners, nurses, construction & highway workers, hotel workers, retail employees, and more.
